Before Ducati announced last Friday the decision to promote Enea Bastianini to the official team together with Pecco Bagnaia, the Bologna brand had closed the renewal of both the Italian and Spanish Jorge Martín, the other candidate for the position, who finally to continue one more year in the Pramac team.
In that denial, the pilot’s representative included a series of clauses in the contract depending on whether Jorge’s future was in the official garage or in that of the satellite team.
As Motorsport.com has learned, one of those fringes includes significant financial compensation in the event that Martín was not chosen, an amount that is added to the token that he will receive next year, above two million euros , and that makes him the second highest paid driver of the brand, only behind Bagnaia.
In addition, Martín also managed to include in the agreement to secure a two-year contract, but with absolute freedom to leave for free at the end of the first year, that is, at the end of 2023 the man from Madrid could go to another team for free, while Ducati is obliged to respect the two years of agreement if the broker wants to comply with them.
On a technical level, Ducati has agreed by contract to offer Martín the same material as the factory riders from the first race, and the factory’s obligation to deliver updates during the year that both Bagnaia and Bastianini enjoy.
As regards the current Gresini rider, the guy from Rimini signed a two-season contract, until the end of 2024, with the Italian factory, but Ducati only has the obligation to keep him in the official team for the first year (2023), having the option of changing his garage in 2024. Bastianini will receive a two million euro token, plus supplements for results.
