Enea Bastianini: "It will be difficult to be in the lead"

After his victory in Austin, Enea Bastianini arrives at the Portuguese Grand Prix as leader of the MotoGP championship. With the whole weekend ahead of him, the Italian rider will give his best on a track with blind corners and a weekend that promises a lot of uncertainty on the track.

“I have a good feeling,” the Gresini Racing driver introduced at the press conference. “In this circuit I won the title in 2020 and I also lead the classification. It is a fabulous moment for me.”

“Now we have to hit the ‘reset’ button. European races are different and the level of the bike and the rivals is very tight, so it won’t be easy to be in the lead,” added Enea.

“In any case, we are motivated and focused to start the weekend.”

The Portuguese Grand Prix predicts rain and wind in the coming sessions, with race Sunday being the only dry day that the Portuguese circuit promises. This instability could become a factor to take into account for Enea Bastianini.

However, the Gresini pilot is not worried about this situation, since his objective is precise: to defend the domain.

“In Indonesia we made a good step forward in the race in wet conditions. Pecco Bagnaia is very fast here and we can also draw conclusions from this,” he added in reference to his teammate, with a GP22, in the official team.

“I did not expect to lead the championship. My expectations were to be in the front, but not the first. We have had two very good victories, the best, for me, in Austin”, recalled Enea Bastianini.

“It will not be easy to keep it [the lead] like this, but we will try,” concluded the Italian rider, who is ready to contest the fifth round of the 21 that make up the MotoGP calendar in 2022.
