Phillip Island.- The Aprilia rider arrived in Australia 20 points behind the leader, Fabio Quartararo, and leaves here 27 behind the new dominator of the championship, the Italian Pecco Bagnaia, an important step backwards in his aspirations to maintain the option of being champion of the world to Valencia.
As has happened on more than one occasion this year, the Spaniard seemed prepared and with the strength to fight for important things, but the bike was not on his side and both he and his teammate, Maverick Viañales, were left without an answer on the track.
“I’ve done everything, I had the speed, I was going fast, but the traction control was failing more and more, the bike didn’t accelerate at all, I’ve changed all the maps but the bike didn’t move, the two riders (in relation to Viñales) We have had the same problem, I don’t know what happened, it cut the electronics all the time”, lamented Aleix.
The corridor pointed to a new electronic failure, and it is not the first one it has.
“I don’t understand it, once again, it’s very frustrating. It gives me the feeling that we’re letting this World Championship go by, we’re making a lot of mistakes and when there’s a rider and a bike with as much level as Pecco and Ducati in front of us, everything goes to waste. fret,” he warned.
“The difficult thing in MotoGP is to go fast, I started well and I was with those in front, but when the tires began to wear out, the bike did not accelerate, it did not advance, there was nothing we could do, both me and Maverick went backwards” , he remembered.
“It’s maddening because when you’re not competitive, as happened in Misano or Austria, you accept it, but when you go fast and the bike doesn’t work, it’s frustrating,” he insisted.
With this new setback, Aleix now distances himself a little more from the leadership, but he does not want to throw in the towel with two races and 50 points still at stake.
“Everything is possible, we are alive, if before the start of the season they told me that two races from the end I would have a chance, I would have signed it. Together with Pecco and Fabio, I think I am the only one who can still win the World Championship. happen and I’m going to try until the end,” he said.
Despite the great step forward that Aprilia has shown, especially this season, Aleix was disappointed.
“I have tried, I have started aggressively, I have overtaken Fabio in the first few laps, but in the end there comes a time when you have the feeling that even the bike, myself or the team, do not have the sufficient level to be with the best in all the races”, settled.
