The Spanish rider started fourth on the grid, was third in the first corner and rose to second place with the fall, in the early stages, of Pecco Bagnaia. However, the Aprilia driver was overtaken by Johann Zarco, who was unable to respond. Despite this, Aleix Espargaró remained in podium position, third, almost every lap, until two from the end, Jack Miller, who had come back after having to do a long lap, took advantage of the fact that the Catalan went long to end of the straight to pass him and relegate him to the final fourth place.
With the victory of Fabio Quartararo, the Frenchman escapes a little more (172 points) from Aleix (138) in the general, although the one from Granollers remains second.
“It was not a good race. To which I have put new tires, the front began to vibrate. I don’t understand how I could finish fourth with that vibe. Now I am not interested in what the tire technicians tell me”, Aleix complained at the end of the day, remembering, without making reference, that it was the technicians who asked him to be conservative with the tires in Barcelona at the beginning of the race , a strategy that condemned him against Quartararo, who was not and won by beating.
“In a race like this it’s easy to finish tenth. It was very difficult to drive in these conditions. The graph shows incredible chattering. I was super slow, but my potential was to finish second”, he tried to explain.
Apparently the problems with the front tire were recurrent during the weekend.
“On Friday it happened to up to seven riders and to Joan Mir, in qualifying on Saturday. It is evident that there was a problem with the front tire”, he lamented.
With this new victory for Quartararo, the championship is completely tinged with Yamaha, an observation that the Aprilia rider does not fully share.
“The World Cup is not so difficult, because if Fabio falls, things change. The problem is not the points, because they are not so many (34). The problem is that Fabio goes faster than me”, he clarified.
