In the middle of the 2022 season, the grid for the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship is taking shape and is already quite defined, with little doubt.

On the one hand there are drivers who have a long-term contract and who in 2023 have their future assured, such as Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso or Carlos Sainz, and on the other there are drivers who still have to secure a seat.

See how the market for drivers and teams is doing for F1 2023, with official news and rumours.

Drivers and teams for the 2023 Formula 1 season: this is the grid

Mercedes, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • Lewis Hamilton
  • George Russell

During 2021, Lewis Hamilton renewed with Mercedes until the end of 2023, and the Briton, who has assured that he has the desire and strength to continue for more years, will play one more season with the team. He will be a partner for the second consecutive year of George Russell, who at the end of 2021 signed a contract for several seasons.

Red Bull, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • Max Verstappen
  • Sergio Perez

The two Red Bull drivers have a contract with the team for 2023. Verstappen renewed in 2022 until the end of 2023, and another renewal will probably come soon between a team and driver who are nail and flesh and who are on their way to their second world championship. Sergio Pérez, after signing a contract for 2021 and then renewing one more year for 2022, won a two-year renewal with a great start to the season, until 2024.

McLaren, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • lando norris
  • Doubts with Daniel Ricciardo

Before starting the 2022 season, Lando Norris managed to renew with McLaren for 2025 and is the team’s number 1 driver. Daniel Ricciardo has a contract for 2023, but his future is by no means guaranteed. The driver insists that he will be with McLaren in F1 2023, but rumors of his possible departure continue. He is not performing as expected and McLaren has a great portfolio of young drivers for all its categories, so it is not guaranteed that they will bet on Ricciardo instead of giving a seat in F1 to young people like Pato O’Ward, Alex Palou (if he settles his feud with Chip Ganassi) or even Colton Herta (if Andretti doesn’t get into F1 with his team). Right now, it is most likely that in 2023 Ricciardo will keep his seat and that one of those youngsters will land in the category alongside Norris in 2024.

Aston Martin, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • Fernando Alonso
  • Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll’s job is locked in at Aston Martin literally as long as he and his team owner father want it. He will be in F1 2023 with those in green.

And after Sebastian Vettel’s retirement announcement for 2023, Aston Martin surprised with the bomb signing of Fernando Alonso , who will play with Silverstone the next year and several more with a multi-year contract.

Alpine, riders confirmed for 2023

  • Stephen Ocon
  • Oscar Piastri?

Fernando Alonso and Ocon ended their contract with Alpine at the end of the 2022 season, and while Esteban Ocon has already renewed until 2024, Alonso is leaving for Aston Martin. That opened the door and in turn solved a headache for Alpine, which turned to its own young talent Oscar Piastri, Formula 2 champion in 2021, to fill the gap for the Spaniard. However, just a few hours after his signing, the same Australian denied having signed for the French team.

Ferrari, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • charles leclerc
  • Carlos Sainz

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be teammates for the third consecutive season at Ferrari in 2023. The Monegasque, for whom Ferrari bet everything, has a contract until 2024, while Sainz, in April, managed to renew for two more years, also until the end of 2024.

AlphaTauri, pilots confirmed for 2023

  • Pierre Gasly

Perez’s renewal by Red Bull closed the door for Gasly, who secured a seat at AlphaTauri for the 2023 F1 season. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda does not have a contract yet, and Tost said he cannot guarantee that he will continue in 2023. He is the most favorable option due to the absence of young talent from Red Bull with F1 level, and because the Japanese contributes a lot off the track in matter of sponsors, but nothing has been signed.

Alfa Romeo, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • Valtteri Bottas
  • Guanyu Zhou

A similar situation is at Alfa Romeo, where Valtteri Bottas signed a multi-year contract and Zhou, also an important economic asset, is expected to follow. However, the lineup is not finalized yet.

Haas, pilots confirmed for 2023

Actually neither Mick Schumacher nor Kevin Magnussen , Mazepin’s last-minute replacement for 2022, have a contract next year, although both seem to have many options to continue.

Williams, drivers confirmed for 2023

  • Alex Albon

Albon himself ruled out looking for another team for 2023, and will continue at Williams. In fact Jost Capito , director of the structure, assured that Albon would not go to any other team that made an offer to the Thai. And one day after the ‘Piastri mess’, they announced that they were renewing Alex Albon for several years.

Nicholas Latifi’s presence in the team in 2023 is all but ruled out, and after failing to land Oscar Piastri on loan from Alpine, presumably and if he achieves superlicense (he’s in it), Williams could go for his young Logan Sargeant .
