F1 -Magnussen amazed by Vettel's driving in Austin

Sebastian Vettel had to find the gaps where there were none in the closing laps of the 2022 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix race after a too-slow pit stop caused him to lose too much time and drop back to 13th. when he had been riding steadily in sixth and seventh place.

In the last laps of the event, the German driver engaged in a titanic fight against Kevin Magnussen’s Haas for eighth position, which would ultimately be seventh after the sanction imposed on Fernando Alonso for “driving an unsafe car” during several laps.

After several failed attempts and frustrated by the lack of speed of his Aston Martin, Vettel attacked the Dane on the outside of one of the most twisty areas of the last sector and achieved an overtaking that left the American team driver speechless.

“It was an incredible battle. Of course I am angry that I lost, but I have to say that this fight has been one of the best in my racing career,” the Danish-born driver told Speed City Broadcasting .

The way [Vettel] drove was incredible . In fact, I even feel honored to have been able to fight one-on-one against such a driver. It was incredible, and I took the opportunity to gain and absorb experience ,” explained Magnussen, who was getting rid of in praise of the veteran German pilot.

Sebastian Vettel confirmed a few months ago that this would be his last season on the Formula 1 grid, but Magnussen explained that from the way he drove those final laps at the Circuit of the Americas, he didn’t appear to be a driver who would go to retire.

He didn’t make me feel like he was at the end of his racing career . He was driving very well, but obviously I’m not happy with myself for having lost the position on the last lap. Despite everything, I’m happy with the points achieved and proud of the team work.”

The Danish driver was the only one who made a single stop in the United States GP, a strategy that, although it seemed complicated to carry out, was what finally returned him to the points zone after seven grand prix with the locker at zero.

“It was tough, but the team gave me all the information I needed to go all the way like that, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

“Thanks to your preparation and input throughout, we were able to do it. I’m very proud. Also, this weekend we announced that MoneyGram will be our new title sponsor for next year, so it couldn’t come at a better time.”
