Mercedes has arrived at the United States Grand Prix, the first of the four events that will put an end to the 2022 season, with its latest package of technical updates with the clear objective of bringing the W13 closer to the minimum weight stipulated by the FIA in the current regulation (798 kg), clearly thinking about the next season.
The team at Brackley have introduced a new front wing with a couple of very interesting aspects: the Silver Star aerodynamicists have modified the brackets on the last flap, which is adjustable, turning it into a curious flow diverter that helps direct the flow to the outside. Before there were three annexes that have now become five.

The engineers have also significantly modified the design of the flaps that are positioned on the outermost part of the front wing: beyond the main flap, which has not been redesigned, the other three elements have been anchored below the higher side bulkhead. in a pattern that has changed enough.
The red arrows (from the cover photo) show how the last wing has been hollowed out to increase the passage of air that will be directed towards the outside of the front wheel, seeking an aerodynamic development path that certainly points towards the concepts that will be introduced. in next year’s car, which should mark a before and after compared to the disappointing silver arrow they have designed for this 2022 Formula 1 season.
