F1|Sainz: "It's not an easy circuit, we lack downforce"

After a United States Grand Prix in which Carlos Sainz was forced to retire on the first lap due to a contact with George Russell, the Ferrari driver approached the start of the weekend in Mexico hoping to repeat pole position of the Circuit of the Americas. On a day in which all the teams tried to find solutions for the high altitude of the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome, the man from Madrid finished at the top of the standings in the first free practice session, while in the second he dedicated himself to extracting information useful for Pirelli.

The Spaniard mounted the experimental tires of the Italian company in the second practice of the day on Mexican soil, and although he was behind his teammate Charles Leclerc, he managed to reach the garage safely, since the Monegasque suffered an accident in the middle of the second free practice session.

“In general, a good day here in Mexico,” said the Spaniard. “We have completed both sessions without any problems and we have been able to change the car quite a bit between both practices to test different set-ups.”

The Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome is a peculiar place due to its altitude, and it is located at 2,200 meters above sea level , which greatly conditions the set-up of the single-seaters, and in the case of Cavallino Rampante it is no exception.

“It’s not an easy circuit, obviously we lack downforce due to the altitude, but we’re having fun,” explained the driver who got his third pole position at the 2022 F1 United States Grand Prix and who is still fighting for the runner-up position although has very difficult.

The man from Madrid wanted to thank all the supporters of the Maranello team and his own for coming to the track on a day that counted little for the development of the race due to the tests with the experimental Pirelli tires .

“Thanks to all the Mexican fans for their great support! It is always impressive to go through the stadium area and hear them cheer. We will try to offer them a good show this weekend,” said the Spaniard from Ferrari.
