Fabio Quartararo: "Feeling the most wanted on the grid was part of the plan"

Under the status of world champion, Fabio Quartararo continues to make history every Sunday in the 2022 MotoGP season. The 23-year-old rider has become a name to beat in the premier class and is currently leading the qualifying sheet for the current season of the championship.

With 24 bikes on the grid, rivalry is one of the most promising constants in MotoGP. However, the pilot from the Côte d’Azur perfectly differentiates the competitiveness on and off the track.

“In MotoGP and in general, I go more with people my age because it is more difficult to have a good relationship with riders in my category,” Quartararo introduced in an exclusive chat with DAZN .

“There is not too much good vibes, because when I am on the bike, I go there to kill everyone… we have to be realistic. When the races are over there is that good vibe but I assure you that when I am with the helmet, there it is not. there is,” added the Yamaha rider.

The extension of the French driver’s contract was key in the gearing of the transfer market. Completely sure of prolonging his continuity at Yamaha , Fabio Quartararo explained some of the ups and downs of thinking about your future in the MotoGP paddock.

“Feeling the most wanted on the grid is part of the plan, I like it. This year they wanted me a little bit before staying at Yamaha, in the end our goal was always to stay, but we hesitated. When you win a championship with a team and the year next they don’t improve what you want, doubts”, adds the French rider, referring to the repeated requests to improve the lack of power of his Yamaha M1.

“I have gone for the best project and in the end, I have believed that Yamaha for the following years will be the best [team]. It is difficult to know but I believe in this project and I am sure it will be very good. I do not need another Yamaha that is ahead to motivate me.

At the same time, Fabio Quartararo assured that he feels “prepared” for the arrival of Marc Márquez, who is currently recovering from his fourth operation.

“I already feel prepared for the fights with Marc Márquez . I want him to come back, firstly because I get along with him and I don’t want any rider to get hurt…”, explained the French rider.

“It is with Marc that I have learned the most as a driver. The two races I have done in Thailand and Misano, when you see ‘+0 Marc’ for more than 20 laps (in the table) and you spend 25 laps with Marc glued without making many mistakes, you really learn a lot and it’s amazing what I’ve learned with him and what I have left.

Despite being the rider to beat, Fabio Quartararo assured that before the start of the year his main rival was Pecco Bagnaia. “Now, in the last few races he has lost quite a few points but he will always be here in the second part. Aleix Espargaró seems to be the most constant, also on the podium, he is always on top and it is a good fight”, concluded the French driver.
