Fabio Quartararo: "I think it could be a great weekend"

This weekend Yamaha will face the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Austin track, a circuit where last year Fabio Quartararo was second after Marc Márquez.

Although in October 2021 Quartararo was in a very different position than he is today, the Yamaha rider believes he can score significant points on the American circuit.

“I think we can get good results here,” the Frenchman introduced at the press conference.

“I will be more relaxed, although I hope there will be good grip, it is very important. I am very excited about the race because I think it could be a great weekend”.

Despite not being “not frustrated” by the conditions of his prototype, Fabio Quartararo is aware that if the grip is not enough this weekend, Yamaha will have less chance.

“In the end, we need to improve here and this year we must focus on that aspect [the grip],” added the boy from the Côte d’Azur.

“Every time I start the weekend my mentality is the same: get the best results and do the best race possible on Sunday, but you never know what to expect before. Anyway, the most important thing is to believe in yourself and try to achieve the best during the weekend.

After the Argentine Grand Prix, Fabio Quartararo is currently in fifth position in the general classification of the championship. And although he is only 10 points behind Aleix Espargaró, the French driver continues to face the problems he warned of in pre-season.

“Before the weekend I always focus on doing my best. For that it is important to prepare well with the team and manage expectations.”

“But when the result is not good, I try to find the solution to improve and think about the next race.”

Although Fabio Quartararo ‘s undreamed-of start could make the Frenchman evaluate other options outside of the team with which he won glory in 2021 – especially in the year his contract expires – the Yamaha rider doesn’t seem to be concerned about this issue.

“The truth is that I don’t think about it. This is a grand prix and therefore I’m going to do my best. We’ll see in the future how things go and what decisions are made.”

“The important thing is to always focus on the positive even though the results are not always good. You always learn for the future.”

After concluding a most unpredictable weekend, Fabio Quartararo expected more from his performance at the Argentine Grand Prix.

His eighth place, added to the ninth place in Qatar and the expected podium he achieved in Mandalika, are not the results that the Yamaha rider had in mind.

“It has not been easy to start this championship,” said the Frenchman.

“In Argentina the pace wasn’t bad, but I didn’t get everything I wanted. During the first few laps I was quite far back and it’s difficult to start so far back on the grid. It wasn’t easy.”

Finally, on the occasion of the 500th MotoGP races, Fabio Quartararo wanted to recall one of the most special races. “I remember Valentino Rossi’s race in 2005 at Jerez. It was one of the races that made me want to be a MotoGP rider,” he concluded.
