The medical services of the MotoGP World Championship have declared Raúl Fernández ‘ unfit ‘ for the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix as a result of an injury to his right hand that causes a lot of pain and has left the Tech3-KTM rider powerless , which however will try to prove itself this Friday in FP1.
When asked by Motorsport.com what options, from 0 to 10, he had to take part in the grand prix, the Spaniard was not very optimistic.
“Quite low, from 0 to 10 a two or a three. The truth is that badly, very badly, I really wanted to run in Jerez, it’s a bit like the race of the year. I don’t like football, but it’s like being from Madrid and play at the Bernabéu, the fans live the same way here in Jerez, especially going through the Nieto-Peluqui curves, I remember the first time I went through there and I wanted to race outside as it was”.
At the moment the decision of the doctors has been made, but Raúl wants to try it.
“To be honest today I went to the doctor, they made me do some tests and I didn’t have the strength to do them, they told me to rule out the option of racing. But I have asked them to please let me try in FP1 before ruling it out definitely. They told me that they will do another evolution before going out on the track and that things do not look good”.
Indeed, as Herbé Poncharal , the team leader, repeated to the point of exaggeration, in Portimao, Raúl has no fracture, but the injury is obvious and painful.
“I have nothing broken but my hand is very damaged at the level of ligaments and fluid spills, and these things are not as harmful as breaking a bone, but they are very annoying and slow to recover. Right now I’m unfit ‘ and I hope to be able to change it tomorrow. The problem is that, with the effort, the injury can get worse.”
As well as missing the race, which would be the worst, for a young rookie, missing Monday’s test is also a big setback.
“Since I’m here in Jerez, if they don’t let me race the weekend, I’ll continue the recovery treatment, but what I’m clear about is that if I get on the bike on Monday I have to be one hundred percent, it’s no use miss the race and get to the test badly and hurt myself again,” he settled.
