The 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix race marked a before and after for Carlos Sainz’s career, since the driver from Madrid achieved his first win in the top category, and the next for a Spaniard after Fernando Alonso last won at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
It was precisely with the same team that Sainz has done it, with Ferrari, the most successful team in history, who celebrated the success of their driver in style in the Silverstone paddock. The Italian team, after the usual family photo with the trophies well present, gave their point of view through the statements of their boss, Mattia Binotto .
The Swiss, as was evident, was as happy as the Madrid native, although he is aware that there is still a lot of work to do to be able to repeat this type of performance in Formula 1. The Maranello team manager, at the DAZN F1 microphones, congratulated publicly to Sainz, and reminded him that they cannot expect so many great prizes for the next triumph.
“A great victory, yesterday the pole position, and today almost the fastest lap,” acknowledged Binotto. “Although he didn’t win in Canada, because he didn’t take pole, this has been a perfect weekend for him, maybe not the fastest, but he has been consistent.”
“He has taken advantage of what was happening, and I am very happy. After 150 races it is great for him, and as a team we are very happy too,” continued the Italian team’s chief executive.
Asked if the British Grand Prix would represent a change in mindset for Sainz, the Ferrari boss said: “I hope so, but it shouldn’t take another 150 races to get another pole position or another win.”
“Hopefully it will help him gain confidence, he already has it with the car to be able to do well, and for Ferrari it is important to know that we have two drivers to count on to make poles and win,” Mattia Binotto said.
