Ferrari has completed its Pirelli tire development program for the 2023 Formula 1 season after a day of testing at the Mugello circuit. The Italians were present with the F1-75 and its regular couple of drivers at the controls, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, and it represented the third day of the wheel company testing its tires.
The Maranello team was already running in the session after the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix on April 26 and 27 , and although they were tire tests, they were not without controversy due to the use of parts that some They considered that they did not comply with what the regulation established.
Be that as it may, the FIA did not retaliate, and weeks later the Ferrari drivers got back into the red car to continue working with next year’s 18-inch compounds, which continue in a period of evolution after their premiere in the new generation cars and ground effect.
Leclerc and Sainz have been able to test, among other things, tires with a rounder profile than the current one, knowing that the engineers led by Mario Isola will increase the downforce as the teams manage to control more and better the consequences of porpoising .
It must be remembered that Pirelli tests are “blind”, in the sense that each team has to provide a car that has been in a grand prix this season, with no new solutions and an unchanged set-up throughout the day. to facilitate comparisons. Drivers also don’t know what kit they’re running with, and have to just ride constantly.
Ferrari was able to take advantage of this day before the celebration of the British Grand Prix, but without using new elements so that the controversy would not jump out again, while the Pirelli workers collected very useful data that they will later share with the rest of the teams in the grill.
Those from Maranello were able to carry out evaluations on a circuit different from Montreal, where the curves are faster, such as the two Arrabiates, more similar to Copse or the links at Maggots, Becketts and Chapel, than the Canadian chicanes.
