Red Bull did not have the fastest car on the grid during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. Telemetry showed that Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari had a more competitive pace, only a few tenths apart, but Verstappen managed to take the win.
The semi-permanent Montreal track was on paper a more favorable circuit for Milton Keynes, and Max Verstappen’s victory confirmed the predictions. In two weeks, Formula 1 will travel to Silverstone, a fast track but very different from the Canadian track.
At Ferrari , with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz , they will try to reconcile and return to the fight for the titles, achieving a victory that they have not achieved for six races.
However, Prancing Horse team principal Mattia Binotto said he expects his Austrian rivals to come to Silverstone with a series of very important updates to the two RB18s .
“I hope that Red Bull will bring a great development to Silverstone, at least that is what I imagine, we will try to understand how it works compared to what we will bring, but we will judge it better on the track.
Mattia Binotto also wanted to underline that Red Bull is not exempt from reliability problems and that this could keep open a fight for the titles that, at the moment, already seems to be heading towards the Milton Keynes factory.
“Reliability is just as important as performance. I think the development until the end of the season will also be another key factor, as will the budget gap and reliability itself.”
Christian Horner was quick to respond to Mattia Binotto’s words. The Red Bull team principal wanted to downplay the importance of the updates his team will bring to the upcoming 2022 British Grand Prix.
According to him, the RB18s of Verstappen and Pérez will not have major upgrades at Silverstone.
“It won’t be anything special, really. It’s a very modest evolution: new components are introduced as the life cycle of the old ones ends. So it’s a very, very different way of development than what we’ve seen.” in previous years,” Horner concluded.
