Ferrari has returned to the top of motorsport’s top flight after some difficult seasons, as the Italians opened the course in perfect fashion, taking their two drivers to podium finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
In the first round of the year, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz achieved a double, something not seen in Maranello since the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, while in Jeddah they finished in 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
The duo have managed to collect 78 points from two races, more than double their closest rival Mercedes, proof that the approach taken in 2021 worked better than expected.
At that time, the team decided to bet everything on the campaign with the introduction of the radical change in rules, and from the first bars of the tests in the preseason it was already seen that they were right.
Things are looking very good for the Italian team at the moment and, according to manufacturer president John Elkann , it is largely due to the two drivers who represent the Prancing Horse honour.
“With five podium finishes and third place in the constructors’ championship, the Formula 1 season left us with encouraging signs,” the Italian-American said in a letter to Ferrari shareholders.
“However, the company is now focused on the challenges for 2022. With Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the team has the best driver duo on the grid, and they have started the year well,” he continued.
In this letter that he sent to the partners of the Maranello manufacturer, Elkann also highlighted the results off the track throughout the past year in the automobile market.
From a financial point of view, it was an excellent year: “In 2021, Ferrari finished a record course, with revenues of 4.3 billion euros (23.4% more than in 2020), and a gross profit of 1.5 billion euros. euros”.
This is due to the sales of 11,155 vehicles during this period, where “Ferrari continues to offer exceptional models, located at the top of the luxury sector”.
