Formula 1 had an exciting and controversial season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton after the safety car restart with one lap to go to win the race and take the title.
Nico Rosberg, who was proclaimed champion in 2016 with Mercedes, beating his teammate, Hamilton, at the time, assured at first after Yas Marina ‘s appointment that the British were stripped of the title “with a change in procedure that It didn’t follow the rules.”
Now, the German encouraged the FIA to take action on the matter to avoid all the controversies in 2022 due to the different duels on the track, in particular between Verstappen and Hamilton. These two pilots faced each other repeatedly, and the decisions of the stewards generated great discussions on both sides.
“The category needs to progress,” Rosberg told Sky Sports . “It starts even with all the overtaking, the wheel-to-wheel action. The FIA needs to adjust all of that so we don’t have all these controversies.
Rosberg believes that it would be good for Formula 1 if decisions made about on-track battles were clear and quick.
“It would be better for the sport if it was much easier to understand. Also in parallel fights, who is right now and who is wrong, what to do. Make a quick decision and move on.”
“We have to get rid of all these discussions, that’s important,” he concluded.

Finally, the former driver said that Mohammed ben Sulayem , recently elected as the new president of the FIA, has “an opportunity” to make changes with his arrival at the head of the body.
Ben Sulayem himself indicated that he will study everything that happened in Abu Dhabi to prevent a similar situation from happening in the future.
