According to the official note sent to the media, the promoter (Dorna) and the legislator (FIM) of the MotoGP World Championship attributed the main reason for the suspension of the event to mobility complications derived from COVID-19.
Despite this, the same statement celebrates the renewal of the agreement with the organizers of the Finnish Grand Prix , which will host the event at the KymiRing for five editions, from 2022 to 2026.
The departure of Finland from the calendar will lead to the holding of two races in Austria, a solution that was already applied last season. In this way, the Styrian Grand Prix will take place on the weekend of August 6 to 8, while the Austrian Grand Prix will take place a week later.
Despite the fact that the global situation has improved a lot compared to the one that forced the design of a multitude of calendar options that were modified during the course, it is expected that this will not be the last change that will be applied to the scheduled agenda for now.
Although the Government of Australia has not yet issued an official note in this regard, nothing seems to indicate that the Prime Minister, Scott Morrisson , is going to open the country’s borders and allow the disembarkation of the MotoGP caravan, which on paper should run in Phillip Island on October 24.
In the same way, it does not seem likely that the Argentine Grand Prix will be held either, both due to the existing mobility restrictions and the fire that affected the Termas de Río Hondo circuit a few months ago.
In the event that the test is cancelled, that would mean that it would not run in Austin either, which for now also has no date assigned after the postponement at the beginning of the year.
Germany renews its agreement with MotoGP
This Friday, too, Dorna announced the renewal of the agreement so that the MotoGP German Grand Prix continues to be held at the Sachsenring until the end of 2026.
The German event was canceled last year as a result of COVID-19, but will return to the calendar on June 20 without an audience in the stands.
