FIA President Mohammed ben Sulayem has released the results of the famous investigation into the management of the last laps of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, this has taken place during an F1 Commission meeting in London. .
However, instead of seizing the moment to propose the changes that the FIA will make in response to everything that has happened, the governing body has chosen to wait a little longer before confirming the decisions that will be carried out.
A statement from the FIA said that Ben Sulayem wanted to take into account all comments from the teams in the F1 Commission, to ensure that any changes made are as beneficial as possible for all parties.
“The FIA President was at the forefront of the talks on the 2021 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” the statement read. “All comments on the doubts raised will be incorporated into the President’s analysis and he will publicly present the structural modifications and the action plan in the coming days.”
No further details have been released on what the FIA has found in its investigation, or what it plans to do, but it is anticipated that the governing body will make structural adjustments to race management with the aim of ensuring that the race director F1 career receives more support, amid a widespread feeling that Michael Masi was overworked and under too much pressure last season.
However, Masi’s fate remains uncertain as the FIA has admitted there is a possibility he could be replaced for the 2022 season due to the events of last year.
Masi’s future, as well as plans for race control and the new structure to run F1 events, are likely to be part of the proposal the FIA will announce soon.
