Five things that can end bad breath

Milk. A team of researchers from the University of Ohio (USA) has come to the conclusion that to avoid that the consumption of garlic in a meal dinner by candlelight spoils the night causing bad breath – due to its high content in sulfur components-, the best remedy is to drink a glass of milk during the meal. As published in the Journal of Food Science, whole milk is more effective than skim milk because it contains more fat.

Coffee. Scientists at Tel Aviv University recently demonstrated that not only does coffee not cause bad breath, as we often think, but its extract is capable of inhibiting the bacteria that cause smelly halitosis.

Magnolia Bark Extract. According to a study conducted by the University of Illinois and published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry , magnolia bark extract is one of the best remedies against bad breath. In just 30 minutes , placed in the mouth as an ingredient in a candy or gum, this compound manages to kill 61% of the bacteria that cause halitosis and that cause our teeth to fall out. Peppermint compounds, however, manage to destroy only 3.6% of germs in the same time. Experts suggest that magnolia bark could be used as a substitute for toothpastes in situations where toothbrushing is not possible.

Tea. Green tea can help fight big breath thanks to its polyphenol content, according to a study from the Israel Institute of Technology published in the Archives of Oral Biology .

Slim down. The data leaves no room for doubt: the more obese, the worse our breath smells. This is the conclusion reached by Mel Rosenberg and his colleagues at Tel Aviv University in a recent study with a hundred subjects. Rosenberg attributes this to obese people consuming a diet that promotes the condition of “dry mouth ,” one of the triggers of halitosis. The research also linked bad breath to excessive alcohol consumption.
