For Mike Krack it would have been easy to "run away" from Aston Martin in F1

At the moment, Aston Martin is the only team that has not managed to score any points so far in 2022 and therefore sits tenth in the constructors’ championship, as they continue to battle to control porpoising .

Its two drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll, were involved in four accidents during the Australian GP weekend, with extensive damage further compromising the British team’s development plans.

Mike Krack says he understood, even before taking over, that it would be difficult to manage the team as it expands its workforce and prepares to move to a new factory.

“I had a lot of questions when I was approached for this job, and when I got the answers to these questions, I knew this was going to be a big challenge. It would have been easy to walk away and say no. I never expected it to be an easy task.”

“I have to say that the first three races were not easy. In the end, F1 is F1 , it’s difficult. You have to have a fast car, you don’t have to make mistakes and you have to have good drivers.”

“Somehow or another, we don’t have all that together. Now we have to work very hard to get it and there is no magic that we can apply.”

Krack admits he is still learning his way around the team and has spent relatively limited time at the Silverstone headquarters since taking over in March due to a busy schedule at the start of the season.

“It is clear that you have to identify who works in each process, who does each of the things. Obviously, when you are in the middle of your career you have less knowledge than if, for example, you spend a period of three months in the factory before starting the season”.

“Equally, I have to take the necessary steps to talk to as many people, try to identify where we are, what we need to improve and move on. Again, I’m not the type of person who makes excuses here.”

The Aston Martin also recognized that the recent arrival of the new technical director, the former Red Bull, Dan Fallows , is a motivation for the entire team.

“We have another new signing following Dan ‘s arrival, so we will have to sit down together and clearly identify how we develop the car, how we improve performance and how we generally develop the team structure.”

“If we have to identify a weak point, I think it is clearly the performance of the car, and how we have to improve that is something we will have to look at in the coming weeks,” he concluded.
