Regensburg – The car is completely crushed when it is recovered from under the semi-trailer on the A3 near Regensburg. The inmates – four men aged 27, 31, 32 and 44 – are dead.
How exactly the serious accident happened on Tuesday, an expert should clarify, as the police announced. The motorway in the direction of Regensburg was blocked for several hours near the accident site near Neutraubling, and a long traffic jam formed.
According to initial findings, the driver of the car probably hit the semi-trailer with no brakes. At the time of the accident, the traffic was slow. The car buried itself deep under the back of the truck. The men had no chance. After the semi-trailer was removed and the wreckage beneath it freed, the bodies were transported away in wooden coffins.
The 41-year-old driver of the semi-trailer was reportedly uninjured in the accident. However, he went into shock and was looked after by ambulance workers. An emergency chaplain was also on site.
Eyewitnesses, police officers, fire fighters and rescue workers presented themselves with bad images: The car, a 5-series BMW with German registration, was completely destroyed up to the back seat. Debris lay on the road, with a shoe in between.
In addition to the police and ambulance, there were also two rescue helicopters and the motorway maintenance depot. The latter regulated the traffic. The motorway in the direction of Regensburg was opened again a good five hours after the accident.
