Yes, going out into town to visit museums and attractions, dine at restaurants, drink at bars, and shop at local stores can add up quickly. But that doesn’t mean a day of fun has to break the bank. In fact, Memphis has a lot of free things to do. And that includes these great free things to do in Midtown Memphis.

Stroll through the neighborhoods
Many people visit Cooper-Young, Broad Avenue Arts District, and Overton Square to dine at the restaurants, have a drink at the bars, and shop at the boutiques and galleries. But, it costs nothing to wander these neighborhoods and enjoy the electricity from the crowds, especially on a weekend night. There is a lot of fun people watching and free music and events are held from time to time. The Water Tower Pavilion on Broad Avenue regularly has events, musicians often perform in the gazebo at the corner of Cooper Street and Young Avenue, and fun events take place regularly in Overton Square. And the corn hole near the Overton Square parking lot is always free.

The Levitt Shell in Overton Park hosts concert series in the spring, summer, and fall that, except for occasional special events, are always free. The concert series generally begins in late May and runs through early August on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Movies are sometimes shown before the fall concert series resumes in September. The festivals present fun local, regional and international tourism events in a family atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnics and drinks to settle on blankets or chairs on the lawn. Food trucks stop for the fun too.
