The Old Town Square, located in the Old Town of Prague, is the best free attraction in Prague. Not only is it home to some of the most famous buildings in Prague, it is also the venue for seasonal festivals such as the Prague Easter Market and its Christmas Market. Throughout the year, visitors can listen to the buskers, lounge on one of the benches around the Jan Hus statue, and get great photos of the buildings in the square.

The Prague Astronomical Clock draws crowds throughout the year and is a great free activity for kids. On the hourly strike, watch the curious characters on the clock parade.

Wenceslas Square is another great free attraction in Prague. Filled with shops, hotels and restaurants, Wenceslas Square is the heart of the New Town. Seasonal markets are set up in this plaza for special holidays. The National Museum, which is free on the first Monday of each month, is at one end of the square, and historic hotels make their presence felt. Well lit at night, Wenceslas Square is a great place for people watching.

The Charles Bridge connects the old town with Mala Strana. If you’re looking for something free to do in Prague, walk across the Charles Bridge and peruse its statues, which are important in their own way.

While on the Charles Bridge, you can also listen to musicians and admire the artwork. Take your turn making a wish at the statue of St. Jan.

For a small fee, you can climb the stairs to the tower of the Charles Bridge. There you will find yourself with panoramic views of Mala Strana, Prague Castle and parts of the old town.

It’s free to enter the grounds of Prague Castle, although you will have to buy tickets to see any part of the interior of Prague Castle. At Prague Castle, you can watch the changing of the guard or visit the Prague Castle gardens for free.

Annual festivals and holidays often offer free entertainment and the chance to experience local culture. The Procession of the Magi usually takes place on January 5 of each year and ends at the Loreto in Prague, where a live nativity scene can be seen. The Prague Carnival is a time of costumes and parades, and a party is held in the Old Town Square for anyone who wants to participate. On the night of San Nicolás (December 5), actors dressed as the saint and their companions roam the streets of the city and distribute sweets to children. On New Year’s Eve, fireworks light up the night sky, and these can be seen from various vantage points around the Czech capital.

Free cultural nights

The Prague Church Night in May and the Prague Museum Night in June are free events. The Night of Churches is an opportunity to enjoy Prague’s religious structures, some of which are not usually open to the public. Concerts, performances, lectures and visits to participating museums are organized for the Prague Museum Night.

Most of the Prague gardens are free. These gardens and parks include Wallenstein Gardens, Prague Castle Gardens, Kampa Park, and Petrin Hill Gardens.
