The Australian, who underwent surgery less than 20 days ago after fracturing the tip of the radius of his right wrist, was not very clear before starting to what extent he would be able to ride the MotoGP KTM, taking into account that his priority was not to worsen the condition of his arm.
Finally, RemyGardner finished this first contact of 2022 with the sixth best time, 1.1 seconds behind the best time, which Maverick Viñales won this Wednesday.
For the current Moto2 world champion, this last day was the most difficult to manage, as a result of the intensity of the pain in the wrist, especially in the afternoon. Despite this, the Tech3 team driver said he was very happy with his performance, and more than that, with the improvement shown despite the accompanying physical limitation.
“It’s been three long days. The first question was whether my wrist was going to allow me to drive. And the truth is that it was better than expected. Obviously I lack speed, but on Tuesday we took a good step forward and this morning , too. I’m closer than I expected”, summarized Gardner , who now has two days ahead of him in which he will try to rest as much as he can, before getting back on the bike on Saturday, again in Sepang and already with the rest of the MotoGP grid.
“The wrist gets worse as the hours go by. Monday and Tuesday still, but today, after eating, I got on the bike and I couldn’t even apply the brake,” added the Aussie rider, very happy to have been able to take part in the shakedown, despite being touched.
“For a rookie, these days are very useful. Even despite the limitations I have, I have been able to ride and familiarize myself with many things that were new”, clinched the #87.
