Goodbye to the Wii Shop Channel: which WiiWare games have been rescued on Switch (or what alternatives are there)

It’s over, there’s no Wii Shop Channel anymore . Nintendo has closed it, as it advanced in 2017, and with this digital store all its games (WiiWare and Virtual Console) for Wii. Because the present is Nintendo Switch , the spoiled girl.

Not that it had many exclusives left, but it’s a shame that this store had to be closed (and thank you that there is still the Virtual Console on Wii U along with that console’s own eShop). So we are going to make a list of WiiWare games that have been rescued on Switch (or what alternatives are there).

Art of Balance

  • On Switch for 8.99 euros

Art of Balance debuted exclusively for WiiWare in the distant 2010. It was a simple puzzle game, whose main premise was made clear in the title itself: “the art of balance.” Its reception was quite good and the conversions did not take long to arrive, where of course the Nintendo Switch was not lacking either. A very zen game with an option for four players (on Wii U it was eight!).

Cave Story

  • On Switch for 14.99 euros (temporary discount until February 13)

Cult game on PC in 2004, Cave Story has stepped on countless systems since then, the WiiWare service being one of the first to receive this exquisite metroidvania , already in 2010. Its more polished and complete version, Cave Story + , would end coming to Nintendo Switch in mid-2017. Another gem .

Mega Man 9 | Mega Man 10

  • On Switch for 14.99 euros

Both Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 debuted first on WiiWare , although it took a few days for them to come out on other systems. But that does not mean that they were two emblems of this Wii service, partly due to the beginning of the saga in the mythical NES. For this reason, the second part of the Mega Man Legacy Collection for Nintendo Switch is the ideal one if we want to enjoy two classics from 2008 and 2010 in the company of the old Mega Man 7 (SNES) and Mega Man 8 (PSX).

Swords & Soldiers

  • On Switch for 4.94 euros (temporary discount until February 24)

A newcomer to Nintendo Switch we have in Swords & Soldiers, one of the first great exclusive that had the WiiWare service in 2009 for fans of strategy more lighthearted until they came conversions PS3, Steam or Wii U. Its sequel It will debut on the Switch eShop on March 1 .

Toki Tori

  • On Switch for 4.99 euros

Originally from Game Boy Color in 2001, Toki Tori would end up receiving a remake for WiiWare in the middle of 2008, where the puzzles of this chick began to gain more visibility. From there, more conversions were arriving until the recent Nintendo Switch. But if we want to enjoy a clearly superior adventure, nothing better than its sequel , whose price rises to 14.99 euros.

World of Goo

  • On Switch for 6.99 euros (temporary discount until February 6)

Also of puzzles, and released in 2008 on WiiWare, we have World of Goo. It was the natural evolution of the Tower of Goo prototype in flash . Without a doubt, one of the great drivers of that mechanic of building without losing balance and that itches. His arrival on Nintendo Switch occurred in 2017 to close the circle.

Zombie Panic in Wonderland

  • On Switch for 8.99 euros

It was not a remarkable title, but Zombie Panic in Wonderland was one of the first Spanish games to step on WiiWare territory. A shooter in the line of Wild Guns that ended up trying its luck even in the mobile market, until its updated version for 3DS ( Zombie Panic in Wonderland DX ) in 2014. And a few days ago it did the same on Switch, as it was sung .

And what kind of alternatives are there with the rest?

In the absence of receiving the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy , whose arrival is estimated before the end of the first half of 2019, we have several alternatives for Nintendo Switch in relation to other WiiWare classics, such as BIT.TRIP RUNNER , where there we have the most colorful Runner3 for 17.99 euros.

It is surprising to remember that only Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I came out on WiiWare (along with many more systems), leaving its second episode out of Wii . That is why the best alternative we have is called Sonic Mania Plus.

It is also curious that La-Mulana 2 is going to debut on Nintendo Switch and not the first installment, despite the fact that its remake came out first for WiiWare in 2011. Although its date has yet to be finalized, but it will be this same 2019.

Finally, two slightly similar cases:

  • The total renovation of that Max & the Magic Marker (temporary exclusive to WiiWare in 2010) by means of Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
  • And the evolutionary leap of the frenzied FAST RMX on Switch after WiiWare’s primal Fast Racing League premiered exclusively in 2011

Seeing how more WiiWare classics have been incorporated to Nintendo Switch in recent months, we do not rule out that more will be rescued or alternatives will arrive. Which ones would you like to see there? It’s clear to me: Konami’s ReBirths.
