Google dedicates its friendliest doodle to Grandparents Day

This Monday, July 26, 2021, Grandparents’ Day is celebrated, one of the most beautiful and special dates of the whole year. In the same way that it happens whenever there is a prominent celebration, Google has dedicated a doodle to Grandparents Day, and the design could not be more tender and friendly.

The doodle for Grandparents’ Day is only available in Spain and represents the figure of the grandfather with glasses and a rocking chair on which the second ‘g’ of Google sits. On your left, the second ‘o’ sits on a rocking horse, representing a little boy with his cap.

Google doodles

The first Google Doodle was designed to commemorate the 1998 ‘Burning Man Festibal0. Larry Page and Sergey Brin designed it. However, it was not until 2010 that the American giant launched the first animated doodle. He did it in honor of Isaac Newton. Shortly after, the first interactive doodle came with the celebration of Pac-Man.

Grandparents’ Day: origin of the celebration

The United Nations Organization promotes the celebration of a day dedicated to the elderly, which is celebrated on October 1. But in countries of Christian culture, there is an additional celebration on July 26, Grandmothers Day.

But why July 26 and not any other day of the year? In the Catholic liturgy it is the date dedicated to the parents of the Virgin Mary and, therefore, grandparents of Jesus: Santa Ana and San Joaquin .

It was in 1998 when the NGO ‘Messengers of Peace’ promoted this holiday. Spain is not the only country in the world where there is a day dedicated to the figure of grandparents. However, in other countries it takes place on different dates.

For example, in the United Kingdom and France , Grandparents’ Day is the first Sunday in October, while in Mexico it is August 28, and in the United States and Canada, it is the first Sunday in September.

July 26 is celebrated in Spain, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua, Panama and Portugal , among others.

“Tell them you love them” is the slogan for Grandparents ‘Day 2011, chosen by’ Messengers of Peace.
