Guide to Getting from Chicago O'Hare to Midway Airport

Travelers have a variety of options to get from one of Chicago’s major airports to the other (either from Midway to O’Hare or Midway to O’Hare). Find one depending on your needs, budget, and time constraints.

Taxis

The first option is to take a taxi. Taxis are available at both airports and a one-way trip costs between $ 40 and $ 60. Taxi ranks are outside the terminal baggage claim areas. There may be a shared transportation option that will allow passengers to save money while traveling from one airport to another.

Shared ride services

Another option is to take a ride-sharing service like Uber. Rideshare services like Uber or Lyft will likely cost slightly less than a taxi (but please confirm the price before you go, as Uber’s price hike may drive up costs). Uber began providing pick-ups and drop-offs at O’Hare and Midway airports in November 2015.

To get an Uber car in O’Hare, business travelers should head to the departure level above. For Terminal 1, the pick-up area is zone 1. For Terminal 2, the pick-up area is zone 1 or 2. For Terminal 3, the pick-up area is zone 2. At the International Terminal, the Travelers should proceed to the Arrivals level (below) for Uber cars.

To get an Uber in Midway, business travelers should aim for the exit level above. Exit through door UL-1 to the correct pickup area.

In either case, Uber suggests waiting to retrieve your luggage before requesting a ride on Uber. Also, keep in mind that UberPOOL vans are not yet available at Chicago airports. (But you can use UberPOOL to drop it off at airports.)

Public transport

Public transportation will work well and is cheaper than a taxi ride, but it will take some time and require a transfer. From O’Hare, travelers should take the Blue Line (lowest level of the parking lot, near elevator 4) to the Clarke and Lake stop. From there take the orange line to Midway. To get from Midway to O’Hare, reverse the process (orange line to Clarke and Lake, then blue line to O’Hare). For additional information, visit the CTA website.

Bus services

Another option for business or other travelers to get from Midway to O’Hare (or vice versa) is a bus or limousine service. The USA Tri State / United Limo coach offers regular service between the two airports during the day. The trip usually takes about an hour. Travelers looking for a bus in O’Hare should head to the Bus / Ferry Center in the main parking lot. Go to Level 1, near elevator centers three and four.
