With the improvements introduced by Mercedes and taking advantage of a circuit that is better suited to his car, fast and without potholes, Hamilton returned to fight for victory this Sunday at Silverstone.
And although he failed to beat Sergio Pérez (yes Charles Leclerc) in the three-way duel in the final laps, he took third place and added his third podium of the year.
But earlier, when the two Ferrari drivers had made their pitstops and he was still on the track, Lewis Hamilton had led the race, specifically for seven laps, from lap 26 to 33 while trying to create a gap that would allow him to get out in front after change tires.
That meant that for the 16th consecutive season, Hamilton has led at least one grand prix at some point. That is to say, in all his seasons in the highest category he has been at the forefront of a race. In this 2022 of problems for Mercedes, he has had to wait until the tenth round, while in the previous 15 years, between 2007 and 2021, he has always won at least one race (and therefore led it).
Leading for 16 years in a row, Hamilton leaves behind Michael Schumacher, who had done so in at least one race for 15 consecutive years, between 1992 and his first retirement in 2006. And beyond consecutive years, Hamilton was already, for almost 300 laps difference with Schumacher, the driver with the highest number of laps led, no less than 5,404.

In addition to Hamilton, another veteran driver also achieved a historic record last Sunday at Silverstone, where Fernando Alonso became the driver with the most kilometers traveled in F1.
Once this record has been achieved, which he aspires to extend for more years, Hamilton will try to achieve his first victory of 2022, which would make him have won in all his seasons in Formula 1 and, therefore, also surpass Michel Schumacher, who did for 15 courses, the same as English.
The statistic that Hamilton has already led since 2020 is the highest number of consecutive seasons achieving at least one pole position, and that is that he has done one since his debut until the last world championship, 15 in total.
