The British driver managed to recover his usual form in recent weekends in Formula 1, where he was able to get on the podium consecutively in the Canadian and Great Britain events. Although in Montreal he did not have as much pace as in Silverstone, the Mercedes car was already proving to be a rival to consider for Ferrari and Red Bull.
Already in Austria, a circuit where they did not have much hope, Lewis Hamilton took advantage of the misfortunes of Sergio Pérez, who touched George Russell at the start, and Carlos Sainz, whose car caught fire a few laps from the end, to add a new podium.
However, the Englishman had to come back from the beginning, since in Friday’s qualifying he suffered a serious accident that caused him to leave in the middle of the peloton, and in the sprint race he was blocked by the two Haas single-seaters, the one from Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher.
After celebrating his place of honor on the Austrian track, the seven-time world champion wanted to mention the great work of his team, who changed the chassis of the W13 in just six hours so that it could hit the track again.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone, the men and women in the garage who have worked so hard to rebuild the car,” said Hamilton. “Saturday morning I had a completely new car.”
“Unfortunately it’s something I don’t do very often, but I really appreciate you guys working so hard and making some improvements this weekend, so we just have to keep working,” explained the Silver Arrows driver.
Regarding the race in Austria in which he tasted champagne for the fourth time this year, the Briton acknowledged that he was very happy: “What an incredible crowd we have had here this weekend. I didn’t expect it, but of course yesterday was a bit difficult day”.
“I am very satisfied and very happy, although they have been 30 seconds ahead of me [Leclerc and Verstappen]. I have only seen the race on television, and I saw the fans in turns 1 and 6 when something happened, so I could find out what was happening”, recognized the English.
“It’s been a bit of a tough weekend, but I’m very thankful. As a team we’ve got a third and a fourth, great points, and we’re moving on from here,” said Hamilton.
When asked if Mercedes had been the fastest single-seater at any point in the season, the most successful driver in the history of the Grand Circus was clear, and did not hide to disagree.
“We are not yet in the position of having the fastest car, I think we have made some improvements again this weekend, although maybe the next circuits favor us a little more,” said the seven-time world champion, who hopes to continue on the path that will lead him to win again at the next French Grand Prix.
