Hamilton supported Latifi in the face of hate messages and death threats

Lewis Hamilton has kept quiet since leaving the Yas Marina circuit after seeing his eighth world championship slip away. Max Verstappen took advantage of the safety car caused by Nicholas Latifi with five laps to go to change his tires and put on soft rubbers, so he had a great advantage over the Briton, who was on very worn hard ones.

The Dutchman fell in the wake of the Mercedes and dived around the inside of Turn 5 on the final lap of the race, resulting in the Red Bull driver’s first world title.

Since then , the Briton has only appeared publicly to be officially knighted in the United Kingdom , where he has not made any statements, nor has he raised his voice on social networks, a space he has often used to express different opinions.

However, Hamilton had a gesture with Latifi after the Canadian pilot published a text on Tuesday on his networks, denouncing and calling for reflection on the hate messages and death threats he received for his accident at the end of the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi that changed the development of the race and the definition of the championship.

Hamilton’s support was through “liking” the Williams driver’s post on Instagram, something that was also done by other namesakes of Latifi on the current grid, such as Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc or George Russell, as well as Relevant motorsport figures such as Fabio Quartararo , Jenson Button, Jean-Eric Vergne and Sebastien Buemi , among others.

“Great respect for you for speaking up, @NicholasLatifi. There is no place in this world for behavior like that,” said his former 2019 and 2020 Williams teammate.

Several Formula 1 teams also accompanied the Canadian at this time. One of them was Mercedes, who wrote: “Stay strong @NicholasLatifi. We stand with you in the fight against online hate and abuse.”

The Germans were joined by Red Bull, McLaren , Aston Martin , Alfa Romeo or Alpine.
