The Mercedes team celebrated the New Year in a rather peculiar way, since through their Twitter account they published an image in which what could be their car for the 2022 Formula 1 season appears.
“New year. New Mercedes,” says the German team’s tweet. The Brackley-based team achieved its eighth constructors’ championship in the last grand prix of last year, although they lost to Red Bull and Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.
Mercedes wants to regain the throne of Lewis Hamilton in 2022, a season in which Formula 1 will experience one of the most important regulation changes in history. The cars will have simpler aerodynamics, as can be seen in the image provided by the German team, and this will (a priori) lead to a greater number of overtaking and wheel-to-wheel fights, as the category itself has recognized.
Great details cannot be drawn from what the W13 (the successor to the W12 they used in 2021) is supposed to be, and one of the unknowns is knowing what color it will be. Mercedes chose to paint its car black for the 2020 season in support of the fight against racism, and that tone continued to be present last season.
However, rumors suggest that the Germans will once again wear a silver body. We will have to wait until the presentation that they will make before the pre-season tests in Barcelona (from February 23 to 25) to know the final color of the car of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who joins and replaces the Finnish Valtteri Bottas.
To date, no team has announced a specific date for the presentation of its new single-seater. On the other hand, this is the second time in a very short time that Mercedes sends the message of being on time with the new project since, before Christmas, they published the start of the new engine.
Some have wanted to investigate further with this photograph published by Mercedes, and a Twitter user modified the filters so that we can have a clearer first image of what the car of the champions may be for the year 2022.
