In his new edition to the comedian Hassam with a moving and inspiring account of constant struggles that he had not mentioned before. In an exclusive interview he recounts how he got out of poverty and then fought against the delusion of fame, for which he almost lost his family. In addition, he tells all about his illness and reveals that he is still fighting to completely win the battle against cancer.
Gerly Hassam told Vea magazine that he is the son of a single mother and was not recognized by his father . He remembers that he was born in a home with needs, in the San Vicente Suroriental neighborhood, in the south of Bogotá. His mother fought to move him forward and provide the best example for him.
When he finished school, he was interested in studying medicine, but it was an expensive career. After seeing that he had the ability to express himself, he decided to study a Bachelor of Modern Languages at the District University. At the University he met his wife and her vocation for theater and comedy.

When he had a semester left to finish he found out that he would be the father of his first daughter and that was when he entered the contest in Happy Saturdays, in search of offering a better quality of life to his family. Over time he came to believe his fame and that almost cost him the separation of his marriage.
In 2019 when he was fighting to rescue his home, another bigger fight was on the way. He was diagnosed with cancer and immediately had to start chemotherapy. It is a multiple myeloma, the second most common cancer. His mother, who also had breast cancer, passed away. However, the tumor was burned and in 2020 he obtained a bone marrow transplant.

Now she is trying to lead a calmer life and trying to enjoy her family, her two daughters and continue with the recovery process.
