“WOW! I’m absolutely blown away,” Nicole Kidman said of her nomination. Other stars were also over the moon.
Los Angeles – Some are speechless, others thank you profusely: Stars like Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington and Billie Eilish reacted to their Oscar nominations on Tuesday.
“WOW! I’m completely blown away,” Kidman told CNN. She had just had breakfast with her family when the nominations were announced. This was her “toughest role” ever, the actress said of her portrayal of comedy icon Lucille Ball in the movie Being the Ricardos. The 54-year-old Oscar winner (“The Hours”) got her fifth nomination.
Her co-star Javier Bardem, who plays entertainer Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos, is nominated for Best Actor. The Spaniard said he was happy to celebrate with his “talented wife”. Penélope Cruz (“Parallel Mothers”) is up for Best Actress alongside Kidman and Olivia Colman. She feels “bloody brilliant,” joked Colman, who won the 2019 Oscar for The Favorite.
Denzel Washington (67), who got his tenth Oscar nomination with the leading role in the drama “Macbeth”, spoke of one of his best career experiences. Director Joel Coen is “a genius”. Washington is a two-time Oscar winner for Glory and Training Day.
“What just happened?” West Side Story actress Ariana DeBose wrote on Instagram alongside selfie photos while walking in a bobble hat, in which she looks surprised and speechless at the camera. A dream has come true, the 31-year-old later said, according to CNN, about her first Oscar nomination – as best supporting actress.
Singer Billie Eilish (20) and her brother Finneas O’Connell were also happy about their first Oscar candidacy – “totally unbelievable,” the siblings said in a statement about their nomination for the Bond song “No Time To Die”. It was her “lifelong dream” to write a James Bond song.
Kirsten Dunst and her partner Jesse Plemons earned their first Oscar nominations together for their supporting roles as a married couple in the western drama The Power of the Dog. This would have exceeded her “wildest dreams”, said Dunst (39). With twelve nominations, “The Power of the Dog” by New Zealand director Jane Campion (67) is the favorite in the race. The Oscar Gala is scheduled to take place in Hollywood on March 27th. dpa
