‘Il Dottore’ is currently going through the worst championship start of its sporting career, with just four points in the first races of 2021. And although the problems of lack of traction in the rear axle are its worst headache, the panorama in your social networks is more friendly. The Italian has spent little more than a year without knowing what it means to open a bottle of champagne to see the checkered flag among the first 3, but in that same period of time he has added two million followers in total on his networks (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook) and reaches almost 29 in total.
A different situation for the eight-time motorcycling world champion, Marc Márquez, who in July 2020 suffered the worst sports injury of his career and had to be absent for the rest of the year after a humerus fracture, even compromising his start of 2021. It was a difficult few months for Marc, his condition worsened and he had to undergo surgery on more than one occasion.
During that last year he dedicated himself to sharing images of his intense rehabilitation, he even showed an X-ray where the 12 nails that held the fracture were seen and in total he increased one million two hundred thousand followers on his social media accounts. He is the only one, along with Rossi, who exceeds ten million among the three accounts.
The network podium is completed by an amazing Maverick Viñales. The Yamaha man closed his Twitter account after arguing with some fans after the last Portuguese GP. After a controversy with the limits of the track, it was rumored that Maverick threatened Dorna, promoter of the World Championship, with abandoning the championship, which caused a debate among the fans to which the pilot replied: “I am going to retire? Hahahaha, I’m not leaving here until I win (…) And if someone wants to criticize me, they should delete me from their Twitter account, otherwise I’ll delete my account, since I have no obsession with doing so. Thanks to those who support me, because I really appreciate it. A hug!”. That was his last post before effectively deleting the account that reached 370,467 followers.
The pilots who have been fighting in recent times also do so on social networks. The reigning champion, Joan Mir, has a total of 620,334 followers, while Bagnaia , the current world leader, surpasses him with 785,662. Quartararo appears as the fourth most followed pilot in the general table with 1,976,062 followers.
Special mention for the former driver and now “youtuber”, Jorge Lorenzo, who currently has 7,646,501 million followers, a total that would give him a podium finish among the stars of the 2021 grid, only surpassed by Marc and Valentino.
