How much coffee does it take to kill a person?

Drinking coffee is something that many people do every day and also several times. A drink without which many could not wake up in the morning or endure long hours of work and study, but the truth is that coffee can be quite dangerous considering that there are people who have died from caffeine overdose, but what about How much coffee does it take to kill a person? This is the answer of science.

How much coffee does it take to kill a person? This is the answer of science

Caffeine is usually taken to provide energy but it can also become a habit and even an addiction to the point of causing death by overdose.

But what exact dose of coffee is necessary to end a person’s life? the answer to this question is much more complex than we can come to think. People are very different from each other and while some develop a tolerance to coffee, others have different reactions to caffeine.

Another hurdle to finding a definitive dose is this: imagine someone doing an experiment like “testing humans to find out how much caffeine it takes to kill them” doesn’t sound very good, does it? However, there are some medical studies that have tried to understand what happens to our body when we overdose on caffeine and thanks to them there is an approximate dose based on the maximum amount of caffeine ingested by people without it having killed them: 100 grams.

At first it may not seem like a large amount, but in reality 100 grams of caffeine is equivalent to about 1,200 cups of coffee, which luckily is far from the three or four we drink every day. However, it is not certain that drinking less than twelve hundred cups of coffee does not kill you.

It is generally considered dangerous to consume more than 10 grams of caffeine per day , which is a huge amount of caffeine. Therefore, it is not by chance that many people have died from overdose of the latter with even lower doses. Curious is the case of a one-year-old girl who mistakenly ingested about 3 grams of caffeine from her mother’s diet pills. The little girl survived and, although she suffered heart problems and seizures, she was able to get ahead and has had no major consequences. Due to its small size, her case was recorded as the second highest concentration of caffeine for someone who has survived a caffeine overdose.

In another case, a 16-year-old teenager ingested about 8 grams of caffeine but survived. All this to say that there is no real amount to avoid so that caffeine does not kill you but that basically if it existed it would be really difficult to get. Doctors advise against taking more than 500-600 mg of caffeine a day , but not because it can actually kill you but because it can lead to health problems in the future, such as reduced brain volume.
