Unfortunately, we cannot spend as much time as we would like with our pets. Work, studies or family obligations make our four-legged friend stay home alone for hours. However, by enriching your home with encouragement, you can keep it busy until you get home. Here we explain how to entertain your pet if it is left alone. Take note!
Provide puzzle toys
Interactive or puzzle toys are a great option, especially if you live with a dog or cat. It will keep your furry busy while helping him to stimulate himself physically and mentally. Puzzle toys are used to hide food inside, and are found in most pet stores.
One of the most popular toys is the Kong, which in addition to being extremely durable is ideal for dogs. You can fill it with your usual feed or with a healthy snack. On the other hand, if your pet has never had a toy of this type, you will have to give him some time until he gets used to it. As he improves, you can put him to the test with toys of greater difficulty.
Chewy toys, great allies
If you’ve just adopted a puppy (or your dog chews on things that he shouldn’t) he definitely needs chew toys. Keep in mind that if your furry dog does not have stimuli at home, he may chew on sofa cushions or slippers out of boredom. Therefore, chew toys (such as hard rubber or natural bones) are essential for these pets, especially if you spend a lot of time away from home.
Also, chew toys help your dog’s teeth are clean and strengthen his jaws. They are also beneficial in relieving anxiety, as chewing has a calming effect on dogs.
Put classical music on it
Classical music tends to work very well for dogs and cats, as it makes them feel calmer when they are home alone. You can choose a relaxing music, with string instruments or piano. Radio is also a good option, although you will have to find a station without loud noises.
On the other hand, if you have a pet bird, you can put bird song sounds or natural sounds on it.
Find a companion for your pet
If you spend most of the day away from home, you should consider giving your pet a playmate. For your dog or cat, having a playmate would give him the opportunity to be more active and even invent new games.
However, you must be selective and adopt a furry that is compatible with your pet. Keep in mind that if your pet is older, he may not get along well with other animals or he may prefer the company of a furry with a calm character.
