Read more about Paris and Angers in the west of the Loire Valley.
Angers is the capital of the department of Maine-et-Loire in the northwestern region of the Pays de la Loire. It is a charming city with a splendid castle surrounded by a curtain wall. One of the main attractions of Angers is the Tapestry of the Apocalypse. This extraordinary huge tapestry in a dimly lit room is scary even today; for the French who originally saw it it must have had a very powerful effect. there is much more to see in Angers: Jean Lurçat’s mid-20th century tapestry, The Song of the World, good museums and the famous Cointreau distillery.
Just outside, Terra Botanica is a quirky and interesting botanical theme park.
