How to get to Nusa Lembongan from Bali

Deciding how to get to Nusa Lembongan is just a matter of choosing between speed and price. Fortunately, the island has no bridge or airport to threaten serenity. There isn’t even a dock; At least you will have to get your feet wet!

Some of the speedboat options cut the trip from 90 minutes to under 30 minutes, but you will have to pay for power. Most of the boats leave from Sanur in Bali and cross the Badung Strait to Nusa Lembongan. Best done when conditions are calm.

Pretty good, all the boat transfer options involve passengers heading to the boat in Bali and then ashore at Nusa Lembongan. Although the boat crew will be happy to help you and take care of your luggage, you will need enough mobility to get into knee-deep water (sometimes thigh high in rough conditions) and climb a step or two on the boat. If this is a problem, try opting for a smaller speedboat that can back up closer to the beach.

During bad weather in the monsoon season, sea conditions between the islands can become unpleasantly rough. If you are prone to dizziness, expect the worst or consider postponing your visit to Nusa Lembongan. Plan to get a little wet, or you could even get knocked over, by the waves as you hop on and off the boat. Take precautions with your wallet, passport and phone.

Barcos de Bali a Nusa Lembongan

Although there are sometimes boats leaving from Padangbai in East Bali, the most convenient way to get to Nusa Lembongan is from Sanur Beach. Tickets generally include pickup from your hotel in Bali and drop-off at your hotel in Nusa Lembongan. You can make reservations directly at the travel offices or at the reception of your hotel.

Most of the boats to Nusa Lembongan land on the beach at Jungut Batu, the most developed part of the island. A handful of smaller companies operate speedboats that reach Mushroom Bay, a small bay on the southwestern tip of the island.

The pot of perama

Most budget-conscious travelers with an extra hour to save opt for the Perama ship; It is a good breach. The service includes hotel pickup and drop-off. The sizeable ferry leaves Sanur at 10:30 am and takes around 90 minutes to cross the strait to Nusa Lembongan.

Find the Perama office in Kuta, at the southern end of Jalan Legian, a short walk from Jalan Poppies I. If you are already in Sanur, look for the Perama counter at Jalan Hang Tuah, a few steps from where the boats leave at the Beach.

Fast boats

Scoot Cruise is a popular speedboat service that runs between Bali, Nusa Lembongan, and Lombok. Speedboats take 40 minutes and cost around US $ 30 (more than double the Perama boat) one way. You will find their office at Jalan Hang Tuah across the street from the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel, just a short walk from the beach.

Numerous other companies with different costs and safety procedures operate speedboats to Nusa Lembongan. Pretty cool, everyone leaves the beach in Sanur at different times during the morning and afternoon. Even if you have missed one of the regularly scheduled boat services for the day, you will have several options for travel. Getting to Nusa Lembongan on any day is pretty easy.

Tips for getting to Nusa Lembongan

  • Most packaged tickets will take you to the door of your hotel or guesthouse in Nusa Lembongan. If you don’t have a reserved room yet, at least have an idea of which beach or area to tell the driver.
  • Internet and mobile data access are not completely reliable in Nusa Lembongan. Better to book or research while in Bali. The same goes for the ATM on the island – get enough cash from the machines in Bali.
  • You will most likely get a little wet getting on and off the boats! Smaller speedboats can get closer to the sand closer to the beach. If the sea is rough, you could get your pockets wet. Waterproof money, phones, and valuables beforehand. Don’t get your passport wet! A damaged passport can be rejected at border crossings.
  • The porters will carry and load your luggage on the boats. Prep bags for a bit of light abuse and possible splashing. Fragile shockproof items in case your purse ends up at the bottom of the pile.
  • Many companies collect shoes on the beach and then return them. This is to keep as much sand out of the boat as possible. You will have to walk ashore barefoot, but luckily the sand is soft.

How to get to your hotel

Once in Nusa Lembongan, luggage will be unloaded from the boat and shoes returned. Then passengers are grouped into truck taxis (somewhat like the famous Indonesian bemos but different) with bench seats. Some hotels and guesthouses may be out of reach or on roads too narrow to be accessible. They will drop you as close to your accommodation as possible and then wait to walk the rest of the way.

If for some reason the return service was not included in your ticket (for example, you made your way to the island on your own), you will have to mark the transport. A virtual fleet of taxi trucks circulates around the island, especially among popular areas. Prices to different bays are relatively fixed, although you may be able to negotiate a bit.

De Lombok a Nusa Lembongan

Scoot Cruises and Ocean Star Express operate high-speed boats from Lombok (Senggigi) and Gili Trawangan (the largest of the Gili Islands).

Another option is Ocean Star Express. In good weather, your speedboat takes less than two hours to reach Nusa Lembongan from Lombok. Request reservations at a travel office or at your hotel.

To and from Nusa Penida

Nusa Lembongan’s larger and quieter neighbor, Nusa Penida, is within walking distance. Public boats depart from Jungut Batu on the west coast or sometimes near the large yellow suspension bridge that connects Nusa Ceningan.

Canisters go when they are full to capacity and often appear to be loaded beyond safe capacity. During peak hours, you can rent other boats for tourists. You may find yourself sitting on a vegetable box or a pile of bags of rice.

Returning to Bali

If you didn’t buy an open return ticket before coming to Nusa Lembongan, you can simply go to any of the tour / boat companies along Jungut Batu on the west coast of the island.

Booking a return ticket will only get you to Sanur Beach in Bali. Once there, you can walk the short distance to the Perama counter at Jalan Hang Tuah (the main road to the beach in Sanur) to find a van or minibus to Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud, Amed, other parts of the island. Alternatively, use Uber, Grab (a local ride-sharing service), or negotiate with one of the waiting drivers.

Note: Instead of offering an honest and fixed price, some of these boat companies will inflate the return fee. Check a couple of places for the best deal or ask for a discount. Try asking bisa kurang? (Sounds like: “bee-sah koo-rong”) with a smile.

Before booking a hotel in Bali

Before booking a hotel in Bali, there are a few caveats to keep in mind, especially if you buy accommodation online while at home.

Gunung Agung: the holiest mountain in Bali
