How to keep a dog out of the kitchen

Dogs give us unconditional love and moments of fun. However, some pets are quite mischievous and sneak into the kitchen, even stealing food from the table or counter. Therefore, if you want to prevent your dog from sneaking into the kitchen (eating foods that could poison him) it is better to keep him out until he is fully trained. Little by little your furry will get used to it and you will be able to cook without risks for your pet. Take note!

Limits training

To train your dog, you will have to put him on a leash and use healthy snacks. Walk to the kitchen and stop just before entering. You can ask your dog to sit or tell him to come to your side. Also, if your kitchen is open, you will have to choose a place to mark the limit. Next, you will have to give him a prize each time he stops with you. This will teach him that stopping outside the kitchen is a good thing.

Repeat this training until your dog stops on its own. When he’s fully trained, take off the leash and test his skills. Surely with patience and perseverance you can teach your furry dog not to go into the kitchen (even if he doesn’t want to).

Put up some barriers

Another option is to install a security barrier (like the ones for babies) at the entrance to the kitchen. You can leave it closed all the time, or close it only when you are cooking and want to keep your pet away.

In addition, it is important that the door is higher than your dog, since otherwise your furry could easily jump.

Ask him to go to his basket

If you have trained your pet to go to his basket or cage, you can order him or him to stay in his bed while you are in the kitchen. So if your dog is obedient and stays in the basket, it may not be necessary to lock him up.

If your dog has a cage, you will need to make sure it is comfortable enough and has fun toys. This way, your furry will keep busy and will not have as much interest in entering the kitchen.
