Cats are curious, funny and loving animals. However, if you live with a pussycat at home, you will know that they tend to bite everything they find around them. In addition, young kittens are more susceptible to electric shocks, as they entertain themselves by chewing on cables and electronic devices. Therefore, if you want to keep your pet safe, it is important that you exercise caution and secure your home. Take note!
Secure all cables
First, you will need to secure the electrical cables in your home with covers. The covers are plastic tubes that wrap around the cables. In addition, they are very difficult to bite or scratch, which will allow your cat not to come into contact with the internal electrical current.
Likewise, you can find the tube in different widths, so you can group several cables or protect only one.
Use a cat repellent
If your pet has a great weakness for cables, another option is cat repellants. These sprays are completely harmless and truly effective. You just have to unplug the electrical appliances and spray the solution (which has an unpleasant smell for cats) with a cloth.
Rub the cables with the cloth so that they are completely covered, avoiding wetting the plug with the spray.
Put away appliances when you’re not using them
Although some appliances are essential in the home and must be permanently plugged in (such as the refrigerator or freezer) others can be stored when not in use. If you can, unplug and put away all the gadgets you aren’t using.
In this way, you will prevent your cat from being attracted to the cables (and, consequently, from suffering an electric shock). Great care!
Keep your pet indoors
For numerous reasons (illness, unwanted litters, or accidents) it is best to keep your cat indoors. If you live in a rural area, your cat may find electric fences intended for livestock. Similarly, city cats could find themselves with damaged utility poles or electrical wiring.
Therefore, if you want to let your cat out it is better that you do it in a patio or terrace, and always with supervision to guarantee its safety.
