How to make your house smell like pets

You may love hanging out with your four-legged friend. However, you may not like the scents they leave at home so much, especially if your pet climbs on the sofa or the furniture in the living room. This smell could even make you consider inviting family or friends over. However, stubborn odors can be removed with a good cleaning routine. Here we explain what you should do so that your house does not smell of pets.

Vacuum deep

Odors may become persistent if hair, urine, or feces remain on carpets or home furnishings. Therefore, it is essential that you vacuum floors, rugs, cushions, furniture and areas where pets spend a lot of time.

Clean the carpets

If you clean the carpet in depth (and not just specific stains) you will be able to eliminate pet odors. You can clean your rugs with a powdered cleaner or liquid gel.

For dry cleaning, you can sprinkle a powdered cleaner all over the carpet. Let the cleaner sit for at least thirty minutes. Next, vacuum the carpet to remove cleaner, dirt, and unpleasant odors from the carpet.

Bathe your pet

If you live with a dog, you could bathe him frequently, especially if you live in the country or your pet has gotten dirty. However, some pets only need to be groomed from time to time, so you should consult your trusted veterinarian beforehand.

Place your dog in a bathtub or bucket and wet his coat with a hose. Then apply the pet shampoo and lather with your hands. Finally, rinse well to remove all traces of shampoo.

Use an air purifier

An air purifier equipped with a high-efficiency filter is ideal for removing bad odors in your home, as it traps hair and other sources of odor. These filters also reduce dust and other allergens, making the air in your home cleaner. You will also need to change the filters on your air purifier according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Clean its paws before entering the house

Pets, especially dogs, can carry all kinds of substances into the home through their paws. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, you should leave a towel on the door and clean the legs when you enter.

This is essential on rainy days, as your pet could have mud (and other substances) on its legs.
