How to properly clean your dog's cage

If you have just adopted a puppy, an essential item is dog cages. These facilitate potty training while providing them with a space of their own at home. However, even if your furry is very obedient and does not make too much dirt, it will need to be cleaned frequently. Of course, you will have to consider the materials, since not all cages are cleaned in the same way. Here’s how to properly clean your pet’s cage.

Cleaning a plastic or wire cage

To clean a plastic or wire cage, you will first need to remove the removable tray at the bottom. Slide the tray out and clean it separately from the rest of the box. Next, you will have to remove the stains and dirt with absorbent paper. Let it sit for a minute and throw the paper away. Repeat the process if necessary, especially if your dog has been in an accident. If the stain persists, you may need to remove it with a cloth and bleach. Dampen a cloth with bleach and rub the stain, making sure to rinse it every few minutes.

Next, you should rinse the cage (ideally in an open space). If you have a garden, you can use a hose to remove urine stains or remains. Rinse the cage with plenty of water and then wipe it with a dry cloth. You will also need to remove the excess water from the inner tray. However, if you don’t have a hose, you can fill a bucket with water and rinse it by pouring in small amounts of soap and water.

Then, you will have to use a cleaning solution (there are many that are suitable for pets) and clean the tray, the bars and the walls of the cage. Let it sit for ten minutes to completely kill the bacteria. Finally, dry the cage with absorbent paper to remove any remaining cleaning product. Leave it outside to finish drying completely. It’s ready for your furry!

Cloth cages

If your furry’s cage is made of fabric, you will first have to remove the stains with a stain remover product. Another option is club soda, as it removes acid stains (like pet urine). Pour the product over the stain, and once it’s soaked dry, blot with absorbent paper.

If you can’t remove the dirt, you can use a bristle brush and a grease remover to scrub stubborn stains. Small dog cages can be washed in the sink, while medium or large dog cages will need to be washed outside with a hose. You can also use the washing machine, although you should first check the instructions on the label of the cage or on the manufacturer’s website.

Finally, you should dry the cage in the open air and use an odor remover suitable for dogs, such as baking soda. Sprinkle some baking soda inside the cage and let it sit for fifteen to twenty minutes. Then, you will only have to vacuum it to remove it.
