With Fabio Quartararo’s contract extension and Franco Morbidelli remaining due to his two-year deal, it became clear that there was no vacancy at Yamaha for WSBK World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu.
However, regarding the last performances of the Italian-Brazilian rider this season, the official team could have invited to think that Razgatlioglu still has a chance in MotoGP.
Niccolo Canepa is part of the Yamaha team in the World Endurance Championship and, in an interview on GPOne, the Italian did not rule out the possibility of this replacement.
“Over the years we have seen everything. I remember Maverick Viñales winning in 2021 and then leaving. Anything is possible,” he commented. “At Yamaha, we all wish that Franco can show his skills and be as fast as in 2020. But on the other hand, anything can happen. For now, I don’t see it as a viable scenario.”
Razgatlioglu wanted to see if he got along with the prototype from the Iwata factory. After a test with the Yamaha M1, the conclusion of the Turk was positive.
“A second test would be a good message,” Canepa added. “It would be a great show of interest on the part of the team in Toprak. I think that if he continued to go fast, it would be completely normal for Yamaha to think of him for the future in MotoGP, he has won a SBK world championship that has been missing for a long time in Iwata and He is an exceptional person as well as an exceptional driver.”
“The truth is that today it is not easy to organize tests, since the regulations are particular. It would not be easy to let him test a lot, but it would be a good message from Yamaha to want to organize other tests for him,” he concluded.
