According to a study conducted a few years ago by Allison Harvey and Suzanna Payne of the University of Oxford and published in the journal Behavior Research and Therapy , the ancient remedy of counting sheep does not help us fall asleep . To demonstrate this, they conducted an experiment with 50 people, divided into 3 groups, of which the first counted sheep to try to sleep, the second imagined relaxing scenes (the field in spring, the sky, a paradisiacal beach …), and the third he could choose for himself the method of combating insomnia.
The results clearly showed that the group that viewed images that were relaxing to them slept an average of 20 minutes than the rest .
