Is it true that you can cook in the washing machine?

The answer is simple: any appliance that generates heat can cook . Do you want a recipe for a quick dinner? Take a chicken breast or another bird cut into squares, broccoli, baby potatoes, carrot sticks, a plastic bag … and to the washing machine. Matt Quinton, a journalist for the English newspaper The Sun , decided to try his luck after his newspaper reported that musician Roger Langford mistakenly put a chicken in the appliance. Quinton was in luck, since of the seven recipes he tried to perpetrate, five were satisfactory: a cup of tea, a plate of rice, a tomato soup, pasta with meatballs and the mentioned dish. The keys to being able to cook successfully in the washing machine are the temperature , which must be between 70 ºC and 90 ºC, having a microwave bag and spinning . Now, sometimes this method can be expensive, as you have to repeat the process until it is completely cooked.

So if you want to be a tech chef, you might be better off using another appliance: the dishwasher . It is based, as in the previous case, on taking advantage of the heat generated by this device. The cookbook Cooking with the dishwasher , by Italian blogger and culinary expert Lisa Casali, promises “taste, sustainability and savings with a revolutionary method.” And it is that this system allows washing and cooking at the same time, and it is completely safe, since food and water do not come into contact; allows cooking at low temperatures; and only requires a few airtight glass jars or vacuum storage bags. The list of possible recipes is immense and is increasing as followers are added. For example, it is possible to cook salmon at a low temperature – a technique used by professional chefs – which leaves the fish with a texture similar to that of foie.
