Johann Zarco dreams of victory in Assen

Fifth at Le Mans, fourth at Mugello, third at Barcelona and second at the Sachsenring. Does this dynamic of results make Johann Zarco the favorite for the Dutch Grand Prix? The conditions forecast this weekend could be suitable for the Frenchman, as the risk of rain is high for all three days.

In any case, Johann Zarco did not hide from the media his desire to stay within the margin of the last races, in order to ensure his entry to the first step of the podium in the Netherlands.

“It’s easy to say, but why not?” introduced the Pramac rider at the official press conference. “I think the bad weather we might have this weekend could help save energy physically.”

Johann Zarco took third place in the last race in the rain (Indonesia). However, the equatorial weather is very different from what the drivers will experience this weekend: “Mandalika was a special race, with a lot of rain but it was very hot. So if it rains this weekend, it will be quite cold, and it will be another story with the tires and the feeling on the track”.

“With wet tires I am used to enjoying the bike more because it takes less force to take the bike into the corners. For me, difficult conditions could be good. That’s why I like these conditions, because for me it is a way of have good sensations on the bike without forcing and I almost enjoy it more”.

On the contrary, if the circuit remains dry, Johann Zarco believes that his Ducati will perform well on a track that has often been difficult for the Italian bike: “We’ll see how it goes. With the new Ducati fairing on this circuit, which has Fast chicanes, it can help compared to last year. If I can get a better feeling, I can perform like I’ve been doing so far.”

At the gates of the weekend, Zarco is on the lookout for Fabio Quartararo, winner of the last two races and leader last year. However, the Frenchman will also try to prevail against the rider ahead of him in the championship, Aleix Espargaro, who could benefit from Aprilia’s strong performance of late.

“Last year we saw that it was a good track for the Yamahas and that for the Ducatis it was harder in the corners. This year the strong point of the Aprilias is that they are great in the corners, they turn quite well. Aleix [Espargaró] is also very good braking, he brakes very late. He will fight for the podium for sure and maybe the bike can be closer to the Yamaha on this track. But Pecco [Bagnaia] was also very good last year here, so we’ll see,” he predicted. the French.
