Despite the problems he has experienced due to an infection in his operated hand, Jorge Martín has managed to claim one of the privileged positions for the start of Sunday’s race.
The Ducati rider, who has achieved the third position on the grid behind Pecco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo, showed to be quite motivated with the performance he has had during the practice sessions this weekend.
“Surely I had a tad more [to offer], especially in the first braking, which had left me a bit of margin,” explained the driver from San Sebastián de los Reyes about his performance in Q2 of the Dutch GP.
“Surely we will find something [more]. The hard rubber I have ridden with was preheated and I think we have something more than what we have shown. I think we can fight for the podium and we have to aim high. I want to leave with a good taste in my mouth “.
Regarding the infection, Martín confirmed that he felt more and more comfortable. “I feel good, and I know I can do it this way. I’m taking medication and I hope it’s the last time I need it, so I can come back well.”
“Always in the first attempt I save a little to later attack more. And well, I’ve gone too far, also when going with the average ahead, with the temperature that is cooling, because on the left I suffered,” said Martín, referring to to the low temperatures of the asphalt and the environment due to the lack of sun and the occasional drops that fell on the Dutch track.
“I expected to be able to, if not improve, at least match [Pecco Bagnaia’s] 31.5, but we are riding super fast, I am very happy to be able to fight for pole position again and nothing, I hope to be in the fight tomorrow” wished the pilot, who stood on the podium for the last time two races ago, in one of his home grand prix, the Catalunya GP, where he finished second.
Regarding the candidates for Sunday’s victory, Jorge Martín is very clear about who the two big favorites are and that they are surely out of his reach due to the race pace they have shown throughout the long free practice sessions.
“Surely I see a very strong Pecco [Bagnaia] and Fabio [Quartararo] in terms of pace, and in the fight for third position, well, I hope to be there”, concluded the Ducati rider about his options ahead of the race. morning.
