If you needed a heart transplant, would you agree to receive an organ donated by a criminal? More than half of British people would reject it, according to a study by Bruce Hood of the University of Bristol.
In an investigation with students, Hood has found that the reaction to the donation of an organ is negative if the patient knows that before it belonged to a "bad person" or a murderer . In addition, the scientist maintains that, among the patients who have received donated organs, one in three considers that they have received aspects of the donor's personality, and believes they have a psychic connection with the former owner of the organ. A concept that, obviously, lacks a scientific foundation.
Fortunately, organ donations in most countries are done anonymously , and the recipients are unaware of the "personality" of the donor. The criteria for deciding which organs are transplanted and to whom is exclusively clinical.
