The weekend of the 2022 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix began with the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, which caused the entire paddock to wear black armbands and special motifs on the cars to remember her figure. Despite the loss of one of the banners of the country that saw the birth of the highest category of motorsport, the drivers took to the track on Saturday to dispute the classification in Monza, with an eye to the sanctions they would receive many of the favourites.
Calm took over the qualifying session because the configuration of the track allows huge slipstreams to be seen and nobody wanted to be the first to hit the tarmac. However, after a few minutes they broke the ice to make the first timed lap that would define the positions for the starting grid on Sunday.
At Ferrari, due to Carlos Sainz’s penalty, both drivers were expected to help each other, but apparently Charles Leclerc decided not to stay in the wake of the Madrid native, although he fell behind the Spaniard, who had the provisional pole position. Behind, the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez were on the prowl in third and fourth place, while the Mercedes combined with the McLaren to leave Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso in the last places of Q3.
Already in the final lap, Charles Leclerc beat all his rivals to take pole position and not need the application of sanctions to Max Verstappen, who finished second, and Carlos Sainz, third in discord. Behind, Sergio Pérez surpassed the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, in addition to the McLaren of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso, who closed the top 10.
However, with the penalties, George Russell moves up to second, with the Woking cars third and fourth, while the Frenchman from AlphaTauri will be fifth and the Asturian from Alpine will start sixth.

Italian GP 2022 F1 Qualifying Q1 Summary
The qualifying session for the 2022 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix began calmly inside the garages, and in the first few minutes only Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin was on the asphalt, although none lost sight of the improvement in conditions for set a best time. The Canadian gave the first reference, but it didn’t take long for the rest to come out to make the first attempt in the 18 minutes of the round that opened qualifying in Monza.
The favorites waited for the cars with fewer options to pass the cut to warm up the track and others simply kept a fresh set of soft tires . However, the tifosi offered their love to Carlos Sainz, the first of the Ferraris to get on the track and who had to overcome some sanctioned drivers to try to help his teammate, Charles Leclerc for a hypothetical victory on Sunday.
Those who spoke about supporting each other on Saturday were the Mercedes, who took slipstreams to overcome Q1, a round in which the Red Bull dominated the top of the table while waiting for the Prancing Horse . Those in red surpassed the rest by more than half a second, with the Monegasque ahead of the Spanish and breaking the 1:21 barrier.
At that moment, after completing the first attempt, it was the two Alpines, in addition to the Alfa Romeos and Pierre Gasly’s AlphaTauri who were in danger , but once they marked their lap, they left there to lower the two Aston Martins, Haas and Valtteri Bottas. The surprise came from Nyck de Vries, the debutant this weekend due to Alex Albon’s illness, and the fact is that the Dutchman was ahead of Nicholas Latifi, his Williams teammate.
When the clock marked the end of Q1 , the Canadian from the Grove team, Sebastien Vettel, Lance Stroll, Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher fell, who will start from slightly more advanced positions once all the penalties for the different motives of the pilots above.

Italian GP 2022 F1 Qualifying Q2 Summary
The second round of qualifying started the same as the first, relatively calmly , although as they prepared to go out in Ferrari, there was a complete rout in the pitlane with the cars venturing out in pairs to try slipstreams.
The first to provide a reference were the Red Bulls, specifically that of Max Verstappen, who took the lead, but soon saw how Carlos Sainz overtook him with used rubber, while his teammate, Charles Leclerc, braked too much in the first chicane. That delayed him from reaching his natural position, but once he crossed the finish line he placed second, three tenths behind the Spaniard with the encouragement of the fans and ahead of the single-seaters from Milton Keynes, the Mercedes, the Alpine, Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris, who closed the top 10 .
In the danger zone with just five minutes remaining in Q2 were rookie Valtteri Bottas, Nyck de Vries, Guanyu Zhou, Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda. However, all of them, except for the Japanese, came out to try to avoid elimination with two minutes remaining in the cut, including a small battle to get a better track position to make their timed lap.
After the action, many improved and others were scared in the body by a possible fall in the second round, and finally it was Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, Nyck de Vries , who made a mistake in the second chicane, Guanyu Zhou and Yuki Tsunoda .
