Lewis Hamilton becomes owner of an NFL team

Lewis Hamilton has interests beyond motorsports, and while his goal is to succeed with Mercedes in Formula 1, he has also embarked on a series of businesses in other branches, such as the one announced on Tuesday, since it has been become new owner of the Denver Broncos .

The Colorado franchise of the NFL reported through its social networks that the British, seven-time world champion in the highest category of motorsports, became part of the owners who recently joined the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group .

“We are delighted to welcome Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group,” said Rob Walton when the current Mercedes driver’s arrival was announced via a statement on social media and the team’s website.

Walton indicated that the agreement with Hamilton not only brings a leader, but also a person concerned with social causes: “He is a champion driver who knows what it takes to lead a winning team, and a fierce advocate for equality, even in his own sport”.

“With over 100 wins, Lewis [Hamilton] is considered the most successful F1 driver of all time,” he continued. “His spirit of resilience and level of excellence will be an asset to the Broncos ownership group and organization.”

Through his social networks, Hamilton described this opportunity: “I am excited to join the incredible group of owners and be part of the history of the Broncos. It is something that happens once in a lifetime to impact the sport and work with a world-class team.”

“I’m ready to get started and serve as an example of more diverse leadership across the sport,” added the Englishman.

Hamilton had already tried to enter another sport with great media importance as an owner, when he was part of a project to take control of Chelsea this year, along with tennis player Serena Williams , although it did not come to fruition.

The relationship between Hamilton and Colorado is not new, because it is known that he has a mansion in that state where he spends the winters, when snow is part of the landscape of the area. Additionally, he attended the 2016 Super Bowl , where the team claimed the title.

To this we must add other adventures of the Briton, such as his vegan hamburger restaurant in England and his representation in the Extreme E with a team, where he has Sébastien Loeb , nine-time WRC champion, and the Spanish Cristina Gutiérrez , in a battle for supremacy against the team of Nico Rosberg, his former teammate at Mercedes.

Walton-Penner Family Ownership bought the Denver Broncos in early 2022 for more than nearly €4 billion , in one of the biggest sports moves in the world, surpassing the purchase of Chelsea, which was approaching €3 billion.
